Basic properties:

Vinyldimethylchlorosilane is easy to hydrolyze and release hydrogen chloride to form a condensation product of methyl vinyl silicon glycol. Vapor and liquid from it can cause skin burns and can be toxic if inhaled. It reacts with anhydrous ethanol to release hydrogen chloride to generate methyl vinyl diethoxy silane. With organic magnesium halide, the chlorine atom in Si-Cl bond can be replaced by corresponding organic group. In the presence of platinum catalyst, Si-CH=CH2 bond can react with compounds containing Si-H bond.
