Hydrogen methyl silicone oil is easy to crosslink because it contains a certain number of active Si-H bonds in the molecule. It can be used as a crosslinking agent for forming liquid silicone rubber under the catalysis of Pt catalyst. Under the action of metal salts and catalysts, the hydrophobic film can be formed on the surface of various substances at low temperature. The Si-H bond is liable to break under alkaline conditions.

From the structure, it can be seen that the hydrogen methyl silicone oil contains hydrosilicone-silicon structure. The Si-H bond is easy to break under alkaline conditions, so the alkali resistance of hydromethylsiloxane oil is weaker than that of other silicone oil. It is also the biggest difference between hydrogen methyl silicone oil and other silicone oil. It is obviously that methyl silicone oil reveals it is the size of N in the molecular structure that determines the amount of hydrogen, since methyl silicone oil typically has the same end group.

The biggest advantage of hydrogen methyl silicone oil  is good waterproof effect. Under the action of metal salt catalyst, it can crosslink into film at low temperature, and can form waterproof film on the surface of various substances. It can be made for fabric, glass, ceramics, paper, leather, metal, cement, marble and other materials of waterproof agent, especially in the fabric waterproof application. It shares with methyl hydroxyl silicone oil emulsion, which can not only waterproof but also maintain the original breathability and softness of the fabric, and can improve the tear strength, friction strength and antifouling of the fabric. In addition, it can also be used as a paper anti-stick isolation agent and cross-linking agent and foaming agent for foam silicone rubber.
